Importing an SNMP Device Configuration
Scenario: You want to configure an SNMP device using data from a previously-exported SNMP file (see Exporting an SNMP Device Configuration). Generally, the OIDs of the various SNMP points as well as the variable types are the same when the SNMP devices belong to the same type.
NOTICE

Importing an SNMP file for a custom device
If you are importing an SNMP file for a custom device, that device must already be defined in the current project. Otherwise you won’t be able to add the custom SNMP device object and import the SNMP configuration into it. See Defining a Custom SNMP Device.
- The SNMP configuration file (a file with extension .snmp) you want to import is in the folder:
[installation drive]:\GMSProjects\[project]\devices.
- System Manager is in Engineering mode.
- In System Browser, select Management View.
- To speed configuration, set the transaction mode to simple as follows:
a. Select Project > Management System > Servers > Main Server.
b. In the Extended Operation tab, select the Transaction Mode property.
c. In the drop-down list, select Simple.
d. Click Set.
- Select Project > Field Networks > [SNMP network] > [SNMP device] or [SNMP property].
NOTE: To add a new device (or property) to configure, select Project > Field Networks > [SNMP network] and create it using New
.
- The System Management tab displays.
- Click Import
.
- In the Select device to import dialog box, do the following:
a. Select the SNMP file that corresponds to the appropriate device version.
b. Click Import.
NOTE: If the properties names do not match, the Combines the properties dialog box displays and asks you to match the properties in the file with the device properties. Select the correct matching, and click Import.
- If the device being imported is the same as the one used for creating the configuration file, the configuration data is copied from file to device/property.
- During the import Class name, Vendor and type, and any DPEs (properties) belonging to the imported SNMP device are automatically populated with the OID and variable types configured in the import file.
- When finished with the import, switch the transaction mode back to logging as follows:
a. Select Project > Management System > Servers > Main Server.
b. In the Extended Operation tab, select the Transaction Mode property.
c. In the drop-down list, select Logging.
d. Click Set.
